Who We Are
A pioneering branch of the global Chabad movement, Chabad of Rhode Island was established in 1979 by Rabbi Yehoshua and Michla Laufer. In the decades that followed they built a vibrant community with Shabbat services, holiday celebrations, and Jewish education.
In 2025, the team grew. Rabbi Berel and Batya Laufer set out to expand Chabad's programming in Providence, establsihing First-Friday Shabbat dinners for Young Jewish Professionals, Jewish Women's Circle, and CTeen programming as well as other programs to foster Jewish growth.
Our mission is to bring the wisdom, and joy of Jewish life to every member of the Providence Jewish community. Guided by the timeless teachings of the Torah as they are illuminated by Chabad Chassidut, our mission is to promote goodness and kindness throughout the world by inspiring every individual to make a positive difference in their lives and that of others. We serve the Jewish community and beyond by creating opportunities for connection, learning, personal growth, and meaningful acts of kindness.
We offer enriching experiences for all ages, from young children beginning their Jewish educational journey to adults and seniors seeking lifelong learning and connection. Our programs include stimulating Jewish education, vibrant holiday celebrations, meaningful community gatherings, cultural and religious programming, and opportunities to deepen one's understanding of Jewish traditions and values. Experience the warmth of a Shabbat dinner, celebrate the joy of a new milestone in life, or reach out to set up a study session. Through these services, we strive to make Jewish life accessible to every Jew, meaningful to every age, and welcoming to every person.
